One of the most frequently-asked questions I receive is, “What are your tips for how to grow a business?”
As a brand consultant who works with individuals across the UK to deliver both short-term and long-term design and branding strategies, I have put together my six tips for brand growth and success:
Tip #1: Keep your brand’s culture intact
Defined as any culture that a brand cultivates in order to foster a sense of familiarity with consumers and help position a brand on the market, brand culture has been a vital component of marketing since the early 19th century. Here’s how you can keep yours intact:
- Follow your brand guidelines to a T!
- Ensure that your team has read your brand guidelines and utilises them in day-to-day operations.
- Update your team frequently on any changes made to the brand guidelines.
After all, brand consistency is crucial to both a brand’s success and growth. Read more about why consistency is key in my blog.
Tip #2: Learn to delegate
Delegating provides you the room to steer your focus away from mundane daily tasks and towards growth-oriented actions.
Some examples of what you could be focusing on when you learn to delegate include:
- Managing increasing levels of revenue
- Attending to customers
- Analysing the market and general competition
- Accommodating an expanding workforce
Tip #3: Hire the right people
The value of hiring the right people cannot be overstated when it comes to my tips on how to grow a business and help your brand succeed.
Hiring the right people looks like:
- Candidates who thrive in your brand culture and align with your values
- Candidates who have skill sets complementary to your short-term and long-term goals
If you are new to hiring team members who align with your values, read my blog on brand emotion to learn why it’s key that your team members channel it correctly.
Tip #4: Regularly review your brand
Your brand guidelines are not a document that you can afford to create and then leave in the top drawer of your desk until you decide to rebrand 10 years later!
Instead, treat your brand guidelines as what they are: your business’s manual that you use to inspire everyone involved with your brand, from your team members to your employees, partners, suppliers, and consumers.
Tip #5: Create strategic plans every quarter
Speaking of regular reviews, the following need to be reviewed every quarter for both short-term and long-term brand success:
- Brand strategies
- Business plan
Personally, I review a brand’s competitive position, core strength, consumer strategy, and situational strategy with clients to ensure that they’re on track to meet each quarter’s goal!
Tip #6: Review the customer’s journey quarterly
Last but certainly not least is reviewing your customer journey every quarter.
As well as reviewing your brand, you need to review your customer’s journey and collect feedback from the last quarter to diagnose which parts of the journey need fixing, what needs to be upped, what needs to be scaled back, and what is working perfectly as-is. Knowing your consumer is crucial for both the growth and success of any brand!
